History

Global Vision - Local Identity

BDO was founded in 1963 by five auditing and consulting firms from Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. It was initially named Binder Seidman International Group (BSIG) and operated as a network. In 1973, the network changed its name to BDO - Binder Dijker Otte & Co. and, in 1988, to BDO International. In 2010, following legal restructuring, the network adopted the BDO brand name exclusively.

BDO in Portugal was founded in 1981 by Ernesto Ferreira da Silva with the corporate purpose of providing audit and consulting services. BDO Portugal has been expanding its range of services and clients and currently has seven offices and around 400 employees.

1988 - Adoption of new rules and corporate identity and the acronym BDO

1990 - BDO Portugal joins the Policy Board of BDO International

1991 - Opening of the Porto office

1998 - Opening of the Cape Verde office in the city of Praia

1999 - Opening of the Mozambique office in the city of Maputo

2001 - Opening of the Funchal office

2002 - Ernesto Ferreira da Silva is elected Chairman of the General Assembly of BDO International

2004 - Opening of the Faro office

2005 - Opening of the Angola office in Luanda

2010 - BDO introduces its new Corporate Visual Identity, adopting the BDO brand globally

2019 - Opening of the Braga office

2022 - Opening of the Maia office

2023 - Opening of the Leiria office

2024 - Opening of a new office in Faro
